This project is a build of the Estes Big Bertha by Daniel.
For the Big Bertha Daniel decided to use the Estes Fin Alignment Guide. Here is a pic of the Big Bertha on the jig next to the Stratocruiser, Daniel's last rocket.
Here is a close-up of the Fin Alignment Guide. In order to support Big Bertha we extended one of the alignment kit tubes with a piece of a used engine. The tubes supplied with the guide were not long enough by themselves. This worked out well.
Once all of the fins were attached we applied Epoxy fin fillets
Fins and tube spirals covered with Elmers Carpenter's Wood Filler
Nose cone primed and sanded
We primed the whole rocket using the red filler primer.
The Big Bertha gets a coat of Rustoleum black enamel. The Rustoleum protective enamel has a nice glossy fininsh.
Decals have been applied. Big Bertha comes with the peel and stick decals. As we removed each decal from the backing we sprayed the sticky side with warm warter that contained a small amount of dish washing liquid. This is supposed to help if you need to re-position the decal should it is not placed correctly. We were able to peel off and reposition as needed with no trouble.
